Details: Come see Terri and Pat’s beautiful new pond! Dedicated KHA and MAKC Health Hotline Volunteer Terri Janas will be discussing the testing of your pond water’s GH and KH and how it relates to maintaining a stable PH. PH swings are very stressful to Koi. If you are interested in learning about your own ponds water stability, you can bring small water samples (using empty water bottles) of your pond water and your tap water for Terri to test. Please label the bottles with your name, phone number and which is tap and which is pond water in case she can't get to everyone. She will also be talking about copper and iron poisoning which she is finding is a common theme in our area in well and tap water. This will be a very Koi health oriented meeting you don’t want to miss! Come hungry, an outdoor barbeque is also on the agenda!

It’s Springtime and time for our first meeting. We’ll be discussing koi and pond related topics as well as testing our knowledge with koi games. So plan on spending a few hours with fellow club members, view the 6300 gallon sprayed on liner pond from the comfort of the sunroom. Weather permitting roam the yard and see early Spring flowers, lily pond, millhouse with water wheel, or sit under the canopy and gaze at the inground pool or take a dip (heated). The pond is home to twenty one koi from three to twenty years old. Biological filtration is provided by using a 100 gallon stock tank filled with Kaldnes which is aerated. The pond has two bottom drains, vortex, Aquadyne, and 120 watt UV,and skimmer. A double vortex system on the upper pond filters and returns water to the waterfall. Water flows from the upper pond to the lower pond. The pond is heated and will be 68 degrees for the meeting. Refreshments served.

Annual Meeting & South Chapter Auction

Details:This year, the Annual Meeting is being held in conjunction with two of the four chapters. Approval of the budget and installation of new MAKC officers will be faciliated by a speaker phone hook up and with the written ballots received prior to the meeting.

Now for the Auction: Bring your fish in well packed plastic bags. The auction will be held inside the bags. No show tanks will be provided for display purposes.

Bring your filters, books or anything to do with Koi ponds that you are no longer using to have auctioned off. Also, bring cash, check, or credit card to pay for the great deals! 80% proceeds go to seller and 20% goes to MAKC.

Light refreshments will be served.

Details:This year, the Annual Meeting is being held in conjunction with two of the four chapters. Approval of the budget and installation of new MAKC officers will be faciliated by a speaker phone hook up and with the written ballots received prior to the meeting.

Pat and George have been MAKC members for over five years and would again like to share their pond with fellow members. They have close to 40 koi ranging in size from six inches to over 20 inches. Their koi pond contains 7,000 gallons and is five feet deep. It has a bottom drain and skimmer, vortex and Aquadyne 4.4, and the UV light keeps the water clear for viewing their “babies”. Plants are located before the waterfall which spills into the pond.

Refreshments served. Bring lawn chairs. Pipersville is located between the Lehigh Valley and Philly so it’s not a long drive for most of us. Hope to see you there. Since they have a 40 acre farm there should be ample room for parking.

North Chapter Meeting

Details:Come view Dan's beautifully lighted pond and yard at this twilight meeting. His 60 ft. long "pond" consists of 4 waterfalls and 2 streams that lead into 2 connected ponds. Fifteen koi enjoy 5,000 gallons of water.

Matt Corino from Sugar Loaf Koi with 18 years of koi and pond building experience will be the guest speaker. Enjoy an evening around the fire pit listening to koi tales and roasting marshmallows. Food will be served.

Central Chapter Meeting

The July meeting will feature John McDonald of Port Indian Koi. You may know John from his previou job at Kerin Koi. The topic will be Pond Construction and Filtration followed by a question and answer session. A pond diagram will be provided for the presentation.

Hope for good weather so we will be able to see the new rebuilt 6000 gal polyurea pond. The filter circuit starts at a bottom drain with air light then into a Nexus 300 eith Easy to a 1/3 hp pump, through an 80 watt ultaviolet light and then out into the pond through 4 lower returns. The skimmer circuit starts from a skimmer to a 1/3 hp 6300 gal pump and out through the waterfall. Flow is adjusted with the help of midlevel feed and return on both circuits. Hopefully all the landscaping around the pond should be finished with a nice variety of dwarg conifers. Of course, the 50's Magic City Diner will be open for refreshments. Seating provided for the first 18.

Central Chapter Meeting

Details:Please join us and spend a relaxing time with club members. Billy and Cyndie's pond is located between thier Victorian home and barn in the middle of the town of Belvidere, New Jersey. The 7,500 gallon pond hosts 15 koi of varying ages and size, has three bottom drains, 1 160 watt UV light, Aqua Ultima II 6000 Bead Filter and a 1/2 hp artesian pump. The pond has 4 waterfalls and a lazy stream, which spills, into the pond.

South Chapter Meeting

Details:Floyd & Carolyn have recently built thier third koi pond. This final (per Carolyn) version has 14,500 gallons, 2 - 1/2 hp pumps, 2 bbf4's, a trickle down filter, and a bio turbo filter with 10 cu ft of Kaldness as the medium. Since the larger pond ate up garden space, they have been rebuilding beds, culling and resiting plants in thier extensive hosta gardens. Anyone interested in plants for shady site, will enjoy touring thier gardens as well as viewing the new pond.

AN ADDED ATTRACTION: There will be a selection of hosta, ferns, and shade companion plants for sale during the meeting time. These plants are provided by Bonnie Ruetenick, owner of Heather Hill Nursery, Fairfax Station, VA. CASH or CHECK accepted only.
