Nominating Committee for Election of Officers 2017/2018

Dear MAKC Members,

How quickly the year has passed and the election for the new 2017/2018 Executive Committee is just around the corner!

With that in mind I would like to know if any members would be interested to be on the Nominating Committee.  Below are the requirements to be on the Committee:

ARTICLE VIII

Nomination and Election of Officers

·         The President shall appoint a nominating committee consisting of three (3) persons including the chairperson which shall present a slate of candidates for each office. At chapter meetings in April, the slate of the nominating committee shall be received into nomination followed by any additional nominations for the offices from the floor. At chapter meetings in May votes shall be cast by secret ballot for each office. Each member family in good standing may cast only one vote for each office. The nominee for each office receiving the highest number of votes shall be declared elected to that office. In the event there is a tie vote for an office, votes shall be recast at the annual meeting until one nominee receives the highest number of votes.

 ·         B. All officers shall be installed by the retiring President at the annual meeting.

A Club is made up of its members, and each member along with their respective opinions and skills only strengthens us.

Please contact me at kgwgclub@earthlink.net if you have any questions about the open positions or the nominating process

SAVE THE DATE! American Koi Club Association (AKCA) Wet Lab June 24-25, 2017 in Pennsville, NJ

SAVE THE DATE!
Associated Koi Clubs of America Koi Health Advisor Certified Wet Lab coming to the East Coast in 2017 and the Mid Atlantic Koi Club will be hosting it!

The last AKCA Wet Lab was held in 2006 in Buffalo, NY. I attended that lab and it was fantastic!

The AKCA Wet Lab will be on June 24-25, 2017 in Pennsville, New Jersey at the Hampton Inn Pennsville.

Mat McCann of Beni Hanna Nishikgoi http://www.benihannanishikigoi.com/

will be the guest speaker at the banquet. I applied for a speaker grant of $250.00 and the Club was awarded the grant this past week!

Shawn Rosen of Koi Market http://www.koimarket.com/ has donated the poster and registration form for the Wet Lab and Bev Letard  http://www.bevletard.com/ has granted the Club permission to use her artwork for the poster.

At the banquet there will be two auctions and a 50/50 raffle.  One auction will raise money for Koi Herpes Virus (KHV) research.  The other auction and the 50/50 raffle proceeds will be divided between the AKCA and the MAKC.  AKCA will seek donations from their advertisers in the Koi USA magazine.  My goal for the Club is to bring in $2,000.00 worth of donations for the auction.  We are off to a great start with a donation of a Noritake Porcelain Crane worth $400.00!  Money raised at the banquet will go toward activities that the Club hosts.

Once the registration is open for the Wet Lab I will send out an email notifying everyone.  I strongly suggest that if you are planning to attend sign up early since this class fills up very quickly and there are a limited number of seats available.

Thank you!

We had some long distance helpers from the Long Island Chapter, Ray and Cheryl Kelly who traveled all the way to D.C. to help out!

Terri Janas from Blue Ribbon Koi was also on hand to help out with all questions koi.

I would also like to thank the members of Hudson Valley Koi and Water Garden Chapter Outreach Committee, Frank and Peggy Almquist, Cheryl Benken, Bernie Carroll and John Remington, for designing the MAKC Flyer that was handed out at the Festival.
