Dear MAKC Members:
I would like to take the opportunity to thank you for inviting me to chair the Inaugural MAKC Goldfish Show! I have already chaired several shows in Chicago at my home club, MPKS. They have all been very successful and I hope that this show will be just as successful.
First, allow me to take a little time to explain the basics of a goldfish show. It is very similar to a koi show, except each there are less fish per container and they go in tanks. Goldfish are judged in two separate divisions- Mature and Young. Mature fish are larger than three inches in size (measured from the tip of their nose to the start of their tail) and Young fish are smaller than three inches. There are awards for both divisions, as follows:
| Grand Champion | the best Mature fish in the show |
| Reserve Champion | the second best Mature fish in the show |
| Young Champion | the best Young fish in the show |
| Reserve Young Champion | the second best Young fish in the show |
| Sweepstakes Award | goes to a person, not a fish, winner of the most ribbons |
| Most Unusual Award | as the name implies, the most unusual goldfish |
| Other Special Awards | watch for these |
| Best in Variety (Mature and Young) | Oranda Ryukin/Fantail Pearlscale Lionhead/Ranchu Telescope Single Tailed Wakin/Jikin Special Varieties |
| Ribbons | Second and Third Place |
As with the koi show, all of these awards will need sponsors. If you would like to sponsor one or you know someone who would, contact me or have him or her contact me. Prices will follow as soon as I am decided on the actual awards.
At this point, several people have begun to reserve tanks. Please do so by 2 August 2005.
Everybody should bring out a fish so that this show will be a great success.
Sincerely,
Jim Castillo
2005 MAKC Goldfish Show Chairman
We will also need MAKC members and friends to volunteer to help with this effort. Contact either Jim or our Koi America 2005 Staffing Coordinator, Susan Boland.
